18 Weeks!

We are in Alabama!!! And loving every minute of it! I have missed my home town SO much... and it has changed a lot! 72 looks amazing... new restaurants, a Target center, a Walmart center, and a HUGE beautiful hospital! Plus mom and dad redid our game room and office... it is so beautiful, fun, and relaxing! They also put in new carpet, which feels wonderful on my now sore feet!

I am definitely starting to feel more pregnant. My belly really popped this last week! My back and hips hurts, I get tired easily and have to take breaks to sit and/or lay down, and I am ALWAYS hungry! Plus I am having a lot of trouble sleeping :( I just can't find a comfortable spot. And I get pains in my side by my ribs and my lower abdomen... I think I am just feeling my ligaments stretching. It feels like when you get a stitch in your side while running. Oh well... I love this baby girl so much! And I feel blessed every day to be her mommy :) I am also blessed to have a wonderful husband that showers me with kisses, rubs my feet and shoulders, and keeps me nourished by making sure I always carry a water bottle and snack with me. He is just wonderful!

In front of my parent's beautiful Christmas tree... 18 weeks!

Total weight gain/loss: Not sure (haven't weighed myself in the past week) but probably 4.5-5 pounds

Maternity clothes? Clothes are definitely getting tighter! I wear a lot of belted cardigans, empire waist shirts, and my belly band on my jeans

Stretch marks? Nope! But I asked B to throw some shea butter cream in my stocking because I can seriously feel my belly stretching by the minute!

Sleep: Not doing too well here :( Any suggestions?

Best moment this week: Flying to my Alabama home for the first time in 1.5 years! We get to stay for 3 whole weeks :)

Miss Anything? Strong face wash, sushi, and salsa

Movement: I keep thinking I feel something! But then I wait for it and don't feel anything... so who knows!

Food cravings: Salty foods and pickles (sometimes)

Anything making you queasy or sick: Onions!

Have you started to show yet: Yep!

Gender: A sweet baby girl :)

Labor Signs: Nope.

Belly Button in or out? In, but I can tell it looks different and closer to the surface than usual!

Wedding rings on or off? On, but a tad bit tighter (may be because we are in humid Alabama though)

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy :)

Looking forward to: Feeling our baby girl kick!

How far along? 18 weeks

It's....a.... GIRL!!!

WOOT WOOT!!! Bryant and I are SO happy! Both of us felt like we were having a girl and wanted one :) The only problem was that I couldn't tell whether the reason I felt like I was having a girl was because I actually was or because I wanted one so badly that I made myself believe that I was... haha. Regardless, we are ecstatic! Bryant knows he will totally spoil her and that he will be wrapped around her tiny little finger from the day she is born. Actually, I'm pretty sure he already IS wrapped around her finger!  :) She's gonna love her sweet daddy.

So, my actual anatomy ultra-sound with my OB/GYN is not until after Christmas when I am 20 weeks along. However, we are doing the NuMom2B study with Intermountain Regional Hospital, a study that follows first time moms throughout their pregnancy in the hopes of catching some nuances that help indicate early on whether you will have a high-risk pregnancy or not (and yes, I did have to google how to properly spell "nuances" :) ). So we had our appointment with that study last night at 7:30 pm, and since I was 17 weeks they asked if we would like them to tell us the gender :) Um, HECK YA! Personally, I have no idea how my parents waited until we were born to know what gender we were! We were DYING to find out! Yesterday was one of the longest days of my life!!

I stayed home yesterday morning as Bryant studied on campus and took his OChem Lab Final (rough stuff!). I thoroughly enjoyed my lazy morning (except for the constant counting down until 7:30 part!) I watched some good ol' Gilmore Girls and ate some breakfast and didn't shower until 11 :) Then Bryant came home to take a nap and study for his last final, and my great friend Kelsie came over to hang out with/entertain me! We talked and, of course, spent most of our time around the piano playing and singing together :) That's what we did all Freshman year and I miss it!

We then headed to campus for Bryant to take his last final, Infectious Disease, at 3pm. I ran some errands around campus and looked up a movie for us to go see. He finished at 4:15, just in time for us to hit the 4:20 showing of Wreck It Ralph! It was AWESOME! I love going to see fun, clean, clever, humorous movies like this one! Especially with Bryant who, since we were both feeling super relaxed and FREE now that this semester it over, laughs SO HARD at the funny jokes. Like, we are talking deep, hearty belly laughs :) It is wonderful. I love his laugh! I am totally buying him that movie when it comes out. He absolutely loved it. We then went to Wingers for dinner, since I have been craving Chicken Wings for a few weeks now! I was disappointed though. They tasted good and Bryant really liked them, but I am a "bone-in wing" kinda girl. It seems like the last few times I have tried to fulfill my wings craving, the end up being fried bone-less wings! So, basically chicken fingers doused in sauce. It just isn't the same! If I wanted Chicken Fingers, I would order Chicken Fingers. Boo :( I'm missing my favorite Baumhauer's Jamaican Jerk wings in Huntsville!! The good ol' messy kind. Delish.

FINALLY it was 7:15!!!! We headed over to our appointment! I was SO NERVOUS!!! My teeth were chattering and I was bouncing in my seat just dying! It didn't help that I had to go to the bathroom SO BAD! But I knew that I couldn't yet because they would need to do a urine test as part of the study. I seriously nearly peed my pants, both from drinking 4 tall glasses of water at dinner and from being so nervous/excited!

We got there and after waiting in the lobby for five minutes, one of the nurses came out and told us that they were running about 15 minutes late because only a half hour before they all had to evacuate because a toaster set fire on the floor above them! That would explain the smoky smell in the hall way. I kindly told her that that was just fine, except I really REALLY had to go potty, so could I please do the urine sample now? :) haha she laughed at me and said to come on back! Apparently they deal with this often-- I guess full, itsy bitsy bladders are common with pregnant women ;) So we got all that joyousness taken care of, filed out some questionnaires, then headed in for our ultrasound!

The ultrasound tech is super nice and funny. I like her :) And they warm up the gel first so it feels all good and warm when the squeeze it on your belly :) She very easily found our little one! We smiled SO BIG because our baby was SO BIG! Last time (she) was almost 2 inches long, but now she said she was about 6 inches long! We could really tell the difference on the ultrasound screen! so they took several pictures and she showed us our precious one while taking measurements of the head, abdomen, crown to rump, femur, all sorts of stuff. It is really cool because since baby is just now beginning to develop fat, she is literally just skin and bones. So, we could see through her skin and see all of her bones! It was so neat! She would move and we would get a perfect skeletal view of her spine and rib cage. We saw her skull bones forming and her sart little brain inside :) It was great. She then measured the heart beat which was about 150 bpm :) She told us that our baby weighed a good 6-7ish ounces and was right on target and looked healthy! They did a couple more things for their study documentation, all while trying to catch a glimpse of our baby's private parts ;)

Only, Baby Giles was no cooperating! The umbilical cord was between the baby's legs so it was impossible to get a good look! We wiggled and jiggled my belly around trying to reposition baby, but to no avail. I was getting nervous that we wouldn't be able to get an answer today! Luckily, for the study they do both an abdominal and a vaginal ultrasound. So, we switched to the vaginal ultrasound hoping to get a better look :) And HIP HIP HOORAY!!!! Bryant was the first to spot Baby Giles' lady parts haha and then the ultrasound tech proudly pointed to the screen and said "Do you see those two white lines? You've got yourself a baby girl!" YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! We kissed and happily shouted out joyful hoorahs! She handed us all of our pictures and congratulated us :) I got dressed, they got my weight, and then we headed out :) We told all of our family and some friends and it was wonderful :)

Then, of course, we went to Babies R Us for the last 15 minutes until they closed and looked at cute baby girl clothes :) We are so excited! We didn't end up buying anything just yet, but it was fun :) Then we went to Cold Stone and shared a small Sweet Cream and Raspberries ice cream, sweet and pink in celebration of our precious baby girl :):):)

I seriously cannot stop thinking about her! She is just so CUTE!!! I cannot wait to be a mommy :)

17 weeks! And wearing my new favorite color.... PINK! :)
Bryant making fun of my belts ;)

Our bellies :) Mine is finally growing!

He is one HAPPY daddy!! :):) He told me I would always be his #1 girl though <3

She was waving to us again :)
IT'S A GIRL!!!

YAYAYAYAYAYAY!

You can see the bones in her leg :)

SO BIG! and precious :):) <3

Gulping some delicious amniotic fluid... haha what a cutie :) Look at the furrowed brow and cute button nose!
Little toes :)

Wearing pink because it's a girl!! We sent this pic to our family to share the exciting news :)

Well, that's about all for now! I will end this long post with some weekly pregnancy facts :)

How far along? 17 weeks!
Total weight gain/loss: gained 3-3.5 lbs
Maternity clothes? Just wearing my stretchy belly band so that I can keep my jeans unbuttoned/unzipped for my little growing belly!

Stretch marks? Nope!
Sleep: Still pretty tired all the time, but I have been sleeping better, thanks to Bryant! He is a genius and suggested that I use our body pillow to support my belly and to put between my knees, as I am trying to learn how to sleep on my side instead of my belly and back. And now my back doesn't wake up really hurting and I can sleep better! Thanks babe :)
Best moment this week: Finishing school, spending a lot of relaxing and fun time with Bryant, and of course seeing our baby GIRL!

Miss Anything? Chips and salsa, astringent for my face :(
Movement: I don't think so yet
Food cravings: REAL, messy chicken wings! And really anything salty. And milk.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Still onions!

Have you started to show yet: I think so :)

A Very Happy Thanksgiving in Wyoming!

This Thanksgiving we had an AWESOME time visiting Bryant's aunt and uncle in Buffalo, Wyoming! We were really needing a break from school, work, and I guess just life in general, so this fun holiday with family was much needed!

The vacation actually started with Bryant flying to Atlanta on Saturday afternoon for 2 medical school interviews. I dropped him off at the airport and then went to Shelby's fun dance recital... all by myself :( But it was good to have something to do to keep me occupied! I tend to get pretty sad and lonely when Bryant leaves. I am proud to say that I did much better this time! Before he left I made myself a "to-do" list to keep me busy while he was gone so that the time would pass by more quickly, and it worked! I did not cry myself to sleep :) Also, I think little Baby Giles kept me company. I still had a little loving piece of my hubby with me all weekend :)

Bryant stayed at his other aunt and uncle's house in Atlanta for the weekend (Sadly, they had already driven to Texas for Thanksgiving, so he didn't get to see them!) He interviewed at Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic Medicine (Georgia Campus) on Monday morning and LOVED it! He couldn't imagine liking any other school... until he interviewed at Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee the next morning haha. He loved that school too! We are both very optimistic, excited people. So basically, it didn't surprise me that he found the good in every school he visited with! and apparently they loved him too... because this past week we received acceptances from BOTH schools! YIPPEE!!! He is still interviewing at other schools, but I cannot describe the amount of relief and gratitude we feel to have our future secured and to know that he will be attending medical school next year, after all his VERY hard work!

Ok so back to Thanksgiving... I just hung out and went to school Monday and Tuesday. Bryant was supposed to fly home Wednesday morning and get into SLC at 11am, where I would pick him  up and we would continue on our 8 hour drive to Wyoming. Unfortunately, his flight had to be rerouted because of bad weather in Chicago, so he didn't get in until 2! Bummer! So around 12:30 I picked up a guy named Andrew from the dorms. His was tagging along to Casper Wyoming (BYU has a ride board where you can set up carpools and save gas money, which is super great!) So, Andrew and I chatted and we went to pick Bryant up. But OF COURSE they had put his bags on the wrong flight!!! So we had to hang out in the SLC area until 4!! K guys, this seriously delayed our plans. No cool. Thankfully, Southwest compensated him for his 5 hour delay with $100 towards his next flight (so combined with the $200 Southwest Giftcard he won on BYU Hitlist the week before, he had $300 towards his next interview flight!) Finally, we set off for Wyoming. Bryant had woken up at 3am Atlanta time (so 1am Mountain time) that morning, so I was planning to do most of the driving for him. But with the delays, by the time we headed out it was getting dark. I take after my momma and fall asleep at the wheel when it is dark outside! So poor Bryant had to drive the whole way!!! I felt so bad!

6 hours later we got to Casper and dropped Andrew off. My dad knew Bryant needed to sleep and wouldn't be able to make the last 2 hour leg of the trip, so he bought us a hotel for the night (thanks daddy!) We got a great night's sleep and then left around 7am for Buffalo. We got to his aunt and uncle's ranch around 9, just in time for their annual family "Turkey Trot" where we jogged/walked 6 miles across a portion of their HUGE ranch! I think they said they had 5,000 acres of land. Crazy. They showed us some ancient Indian rings that were super neat and told us stories about the Indians that used to live on their lands. We then showered and had a delicious brunch together.

The rest of the day, Bryant helped his uncle build a really awesome looking chicken coop for their funny chickens :) I helped cook Thanksgiving dinner in their industrial kitchen (it's a guest ranch in the summer months, so they do a lot of cooking for the visitors!). We ate a yummy dinner of turkey, sweet potatoes with orange peel and maple syrup.... so good!, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and gluten-free stuffing. I skipped the stuffing because it had onions in it, but Bryant said it was the best stuffing he had ever tasted!

Bryant and I had one of the 5 guest houses all to ourselves... it was huge! We just picked a cozy, country room in the back with a queen bed. But there were like 10 rooms to choose from and a zillion beds! It was cool :) They had little shampoos and lotions and stuff with their ranch's name on it like at hotels haha it was great.

The next day Bryant and I ate some homemade granola for breakfast while watching the 20 deer grazing outside our window. That was cool because they were so close and innocent and beautiful! There was a huge buck with really tall antlers. All Bryant could think of was shooting it and how cool his grandad would think he was for getting a buck with such a huge rack... how rude :( the poor thing.

Bryant went out with the boys to shoot prairie dogs, then we ate yummy leftovers :)

Turkey, Pepperjack cheese, homemade cranberry sauce, LOTS of avocado, lettuce, mayo, salt and pepper :) YUM!

And at some point that day (I think in the morning actually) we went up into the mountains and chopped down 3 Christmas trees! That was so fun! Everyone was arguing about which tree was "the perfect tree". It was funny. There was a lot of snow in the mountains, so I am glad we brought our snow gear!

Around 1:30 we all headed into Laramie (I think) about 45 minutes away to go to the movies and out for dinner. We all ended up seeing different movies, and Bryant and I opted to go see Breaking Dawn pt 2.... SO GOOD!!!! We totally freaked out. I loved that movie! I highly suggest seeing it! Afterwards, we went to this really nice steak restaurant. Bryant and I split delicious BBQ ribs and his aunt and uncle were so sweet and paid for our dinner :) They are great!

The next day we just hung out on the ranch and rode horses! That was so much fun! I felt bad for everyone else, because since I am pregnant and not technically supposed to be riding horses (just due to the potential of being bucked off) no one was allowed to trot so that my horse wouldn't be tempted to speed up and trot along side of them. It was all good though because we had a great walk around the land! We saw lots of funny prairie dogs and the pretty mountains. My horse was named Flash and we got along really well. I quickly remembered what I learned back when I spent a couple months riding horses in middle school. We also brushed and cleaned the horses and helped with some training.

Bryant and his Aunt Kirsten

My horse, Flash!

That night, we headed into town for some groceries and to rent a movie, and then we all sat down as a family and made some awesome mexican food, assembly line style! We had jalapeno poppers, guacamole and chips, refried beans, and TAMALES! We ate it all while watching Moonlight Kingdom, which was a very weird movie. I don't suggest that one.
Made with the healthiest ingredient.... LARD! Just don't let yourself think about it, and it tastes delish ;)

YUM!

The next morning we packed everything up and went to Sacrament meeting with his family. We said our goodbyes afterwards and hit the road! There was lots of snow, but we had checked the weather and it would be clear the whole way after about an hour and blizzard. Bryant was really nervous driving, seeing as last Christmas was got hit by a semi in a horrible blizzard. This one looked like what last year's looked as we headed into it. But, like promised, once we got to Casper 1.5 hours away, everything was clear! Apparently all the roads closed right after us and they got a foot of snow that day! We were so lucky we got out in time!

The rest of the drive we just chatted and enjoyed each other's company :) now we are home, finishing up school, and preparing for finals! We get to fly home to Alabama in a week and a half for the Christmas holidays, and we can't wait!

Sorry this is long and probably boring, but I didn't want to forget our fun trip :)

Baby Giles: 15 Weeks!

I'm a bit behind posting this, but this girl hit 15 weeks on Friday November 30 :)

How far along? 15 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: gained 2-2.5 lbs (depending on how much I ate the night before... haha)
Maternity clothes? Not yet, still fit in my same clothes pretty well. I just have a rubber band looped around my unbuttoned jeans button, which seems to work wonders :)

Stretch marks? Nope, crossing my fingers I wont have to ever answer yes to the question!
Sleep: Other than frequent bathroom breaks, I've been sleeping just fine! I'm nervous for when I won't be able to sleep on my belly anymore!

Best moment this week: Just getting SO anxious to find out the gender next week!! On a non-baby related note... Bryant's team won their flag football championship! Bryant got into two medical schools! And he finishes his Lazy Man Iron Man (do a full Iron Man in a one month period) tomorrow morning! I am just SOOOO proud of my husband!!! I love him so much, and this baby he blessed me with reminds me every second how much I love him and how blissfully lucky I am.

Miss Anything? Nope, life is still pretty much the same
Movement: Sometimes I imagine that I can feel something... but it's probably just in my head :)
Food cravings: Milk/Milkshakes and hot comfort food (like mashed potatoes... mmmm)

Anything making you queasy or sick: ONIONS! Accidentally had them in my lunch yesterday so I went home sick :(
Have you started to show yet: I can tell a big difference! Everyone else probably just thinks I ate too much at Thanksgiving ;)
Gender: Finding out next Thursday night!!! AHH!!!
Labor Signs: Nope. That would be worrisome, so thank goodness!
Belly Button in or out? definitely still IN!
Wedding rings on or off? On!
Happy or Moody most of the time: I am pretty darn happy!

Looking forward to: Finding out the gender of the my sweet baby!
